Our Sydney City Physio Clinic's Most Common Injuries

Our Sydney City Physio Clinic's Most Common Injuries

The most common injuries we see in our Sydney City Physiotherapy clinic involve some sort of bad sitting habit.

Whether that is a runner with ITB (outside knee pain) because they lean on their elbow a lot of the day at work. See the below image, look familiar?

Mr Lean on me runs with their trunk leaning to the left which overloads the outside thigh. What caused the trunk to lean to the lest as they run? You guessed that bad sitting habit. Mr Lean On Me loves to support his head in his hand all day. Mr Lean On Me probably reads a lot on the screen so it is easier to lean on that hand.

Do you suffer from recurring neck pain or headaches? Mrs/Mr  Keyboard and Mouse Too Far In Front also does. As does Mrs Smartphone Addict. Having your keyboard out that far really overloads the neck muscles of your chest and neck. This compresses your neck joints leading to neck pain and headaches.

Having raging outside hip pain at night when you sleep. What is one of the main contributors to this? Leg crossing. Another classic postural faux pas.

It's not enough to cross their legs at the cafe. Mrs leg Crosser loves to cross her legs all day at work. This really stiffens the hips and compresses the outside hip tendon.

So when we are assessing a new patient in our city physio clinic, a big part of our questioning relates to how you sit at work. The answer 9 out of 10 times is “perfectly” or “pretty well”

So we will quite often get one of their workmates to take an honest photo of them working from back and side. This can really help City workers get better a lot faster when they see what they are actually doing wrong. Together we can identify the problem pretty quickly.

Are you a leaner? Are you a leg crosser? Do you have your own funk sitting posture? If so, comment below.
